BEREA, Ohio – March 23, 2022 – At a rain drenched Baldwin Wallace University, Chatham succumbed to a flurry of Yellow Jacket goals Wednesday night, falling to the hosts 18-7. Chatham's record drops to 2-6.
Baldwin Wallace scored the first goal early in the first, but a weather delay halted the game with 4:09 remaining in the quarter. Out of the locker room, neither team could break even in the first, thus the Yellow Jackets led 1-0.
Chatham would respond in the second when senior
Kyle Rullan got the pass from classmate
Andrew Mattingly to even the game at 1-1. Baldwin Wallace scored the next two goals, but senior
Adam Bleess found classmate
Nicholas Guaglione with 25 seconds put the Cougars within one at the half.
The Cougars could not capitalize on this momentum in the second half. Baldwin Wallace scored the next eight goals to go up by a bunch. Bleess and first-year
Ethan Rinker each scored unassisted tallies, but the Yellow Jackets held a comfortable lead heading to the fourth. In the final 15 minutes, Chatham ended up getting three goals from Rullan, Bleess and graduate
Patrick Brunner.
Chatham was outshot 65-26 for the game and 40-19 on goal and were kept alive for much of the game thanks to a valiant effort in the cage. First-year
Zen Smith made a career-and-program best 20 saves. Senior
Shane Gaglione finished the final 10:53 and made a pair of saves.
Chatham looks to rebound on Saturday, March 26 with a noon start at Randolph-Macon.
