Erwin Wins Gold, Cougars Perform Season-Bests at PAC Championships

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - February 24, 2022 - Chatham University's Women's and Men's Indoor Track and Field Teams headed to Youngstown State University this afternoon for the 2022 PAC Championships. The majority of the Cougars participating landed themselves in the top twenty, if not the top ten or five.

Headlining the Cougars' Championship campaign this year is first-year Clare Erwin, who earned a team-high first-place finish in the 5000 with a time of 19:08.74. Erwin is the sole Cougar to bring home the gold at this years' championship.

The second and third highest finishes went to graduate student Alexia Page-Boyd and sophomore Violeta Kenzevich, who took second and third place in the weight throw (13.75m) and shot-put (11.00m) respectively.

Senior Brett Seich would become the fourth highest-placed Cougar of the day with his 4:33.39 performance in the mile, earning him fifth place. Junior Tresa Coon would follow in seventh place, running a 1:04.07 400m Dash.

First-year Jack Matics took ninth in the 5000, coming in at 16:52.98. Senior Rebecca Pennington and first-year Kendall Sirignano would both earn tenth in their respective running events, with Pennington finishing the 3000 in 12:07.62 and Sirignano taking a 1:04.36 400. Pennington would also come in eleventh in the 5000, crossing the finish line at 21:13.29.

Several members of the men's team would finish in the top 15, including sophomore Brent Clutter with a 9.90m weight throw, graduate student Parker Laughlin with a 54.03 400 dash, and Matics with a 9:36.35 3000.

The women had the same luck with Kenzevich, Coon, sophomore Macie Janto, and junior Haley Daugherty in the weight throw, 800, and 200 respectively.

Justin Desabato and Benjamin Brown would place in the top twenty while Lane Macy and Kristopher Longenecker would finish in the top 25.

The Cougars have a few weeks to recover before the Outdoor Track and Field season, which commences on March 19th at West Virginia University.
