Volleyball Comes Back for Fifth Set Victory in Conference Opener

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - October 1, 2022 - Chatham Volleyball hosted Washington & Jefferson this evening in their conference opener. Despite W&J taking leads twice in the set count, the Cougars would come back to win in the fifth. In non conference play, the Presidents defeated the Cougars 3-1.

Set 1: 25-21 W&J

Set 2: 25-16 Chatham

Set 3: 28-26 W&J

Set 4: 25-18 Chatham

Set 5: 19-17 Chatham

While the Presidents set the tone in the first set, the Cougars would give it right back in the second. Junior Amelia Bogovich and first-year Alyssa Leskovac dominated at the net, and were helped along by kills from senior Rylee Ritko, junior Baileigh Horan, and sophomore Jessica Taney.

Under pressure from losing their lead, the Presidents would force the third set into extended points before claiming the win.

Down two games to one, Chatham was forced to win the fourth set, which they did convincingly. Ritko, Horan, Bogovich, and Leskovac each tallied multiple kills. First-year Sierra Ricci would record a crucial service ace while forcing errors on the visiting Presidents that gave the Cougars points. Taney and junior Aaleyiah Williams put the nail in the coffin with a perfect double block to earn the 25th point.

In the fifth, the Presidents would pull ahead several times, forcing the Cougars to play catch-up. Chatham was up to the task, and Bogovich, Leskovac, Williams, Horan, and junior Meghan Dominek racked up the points. At 17-all, Aaleyiah Williams and Alyssa Leskovac recorded back-to-back kills, giving the Cougars a 1-0 record in conference play.

Leskovac led the Cougar offense with 24 kills, followed by Amelia Bogovich with 18 and Aaleyiah Williams with 11. Bogovich would also record a team-high three service aces, followed by Sierra Ricci and senior Shaelah Pepperman with two apiece. Pepperman also racked up a game-high 57 assists.

The Cougars' next contest is on the road at Waynesburg University on Tuesday, October 4th.
