GREENVILLE, Pa. - January 26, 2022 - Chatham Women's Basketball traveled to Thiel College this evening for a PAC matchup. The Cougars dominated throughout the game, earning a convincing 68-52 victory over the Tomcats on their own court.
Graduate students Maddy Grennes and Julianna Skowron teamed up to provide Chatham's first points of the game, followed soon after by Brittani Smith with a big three to pull out of a tie. First-year Aurielle Brunner would come in hot for three straight points, followed by repeat points by Grennes, Smith, and Skowron. Rookie Emily Durkee would go to work late in the quarter to increase the point deficit even further, hitting a three-point field goal to put the visitors up 19-8.
The Tomcats would get some shots off early in the second, but Grennes and Brunner would get to work quickly to erase those points with more of their own. Smith would double her point total to 10 as Skowron and juniors Sierra McClain and Riley D'Angelo would help take Chatham up to a 37-22 lead after half.
In the third quarter, Thiel would ramp up both their offensive and defensive efforts. Chatham would manage just 11 points while Thiel accrued 18, cutting the lead down to eight points. Of the Cougars' points, Riley D'Angelo was responsible for six of them off of two threes, Emily Durkee hit a three as well, and Brittani Smith would add two more with a layup.
Skowron and Grennes would get back on the board early in the fourth, starting what would become a 20-point scoring spree. Skowron would add eight points in the fourth quarter alone with first-years Emily Durkee and Keegan McConahy adding insurance points of their own.
Skowron would become the points leader with 14, followed by Smith with 12 and D'Angelo with 11. McClain, Grennes, and Durkee would all finish the game with eight each. D'Angelo also had a game-high nine rebounds. Brunner and McClain would tie for the game high in both assists and steals with four.
