PITTSBURGH, Pa. – September 22, 2021 – The Chatham women's soccer team launched an avalanche of shots at Mount Aloysius, including three first half goals to put down the Mounties 4-1 at a rain-drenched UPMC Graham Field on Wednesday night. The win evens the Cougars' record at 2-2-1.
The game did not start out in Chatham's favor, as it surrendered a goal in the first five minutes of action after a cross skidded past a slippery defense. However, the Cougars found themselves behind for just 18 seconds. Graduate
Kyla Kelley found junior
Greta Mort in the middle of the box where the latter buried the ball in the nylon.
It didn't take long for the Cougars to snatch the lead, and it was thanks to a familiar face. Junior
Maggie Toomey raced the ball to senior
Morgan Anderson who notched her first goal of the 2021 fall season in the 13
th minute. Anderson then added another for good measure after a loose ball ricocheted off the cross bar and fell in her lap in the 33
rd minute. The score read 3-1 Chatham at the break.
In the second half, Chatham mounted a few corner kick opportunities. One of those, taken by senior
Paxton Steffy, was cashed in after a header in the box was scored by first-year
Bianca Brumsted, her first goal as a Chatham Cougar. The Cougars took a few shots after that, but for the most part they played keep away from the Mounties to secure the 4-1 win.
Chatham dominated the stat line, outshooting Mount Aloysius 28-9 including 19-6 on goal. The Cougars also attempted six corners compared to the Mounties' four. Junior
Tyler Colburn started in net and made three saves in 70 minutes of action. First-year
Hannah Ehrlich relieved her for the final 20 minutes, making a pair of stops.
The Cougars wrap up conference play on Saturday with a matinee at York College at 3:00 pm.
