ALLIANCE, Ohio – September 18, 2021 – The Chatham women's soccer team battled from behind throughout most of regulation and ultimately notched a tie with the hosting Mount Union Purple Raiders Saturday night 1-1. The tie makes Chatham's record 1-2-1 on the season.
The Cougars did not get off to the best of starts. Chatham got a shot 24 seconds in by junior
Greta Mort that was saved right away, and then just 2:20 in the Purple Raiders had cracked the scoreboard after a corner.
For the remainder of the first half and majority of the second half, Chatham fought off a flurry of Mount Union shots thanks to the stellar efforts of junior goalkeeper
Tyler Colburn. She made eight saves in regulation during Saturday's affair. However, the second half will be remembered by a Purple Raider gaffe with 2:16 left to play that allowed the game to be tied.
The first overtime period was dominated once again by Purple Raider shots, but only one of those attempts found the vicinity of the net which was saved by Colburn. The second overtime was more balanced, but two more Colburn saves led to the tie ballgame after 110 minutes of action.
The Cougars were outshot 24-12 for the game and 14-10 on goal but were kept in the contest by Colburn's 11 saves in net. 10 different Cougars registered a shot on goal with the last to touch on the Mount Union own goal being senior
Morgan Anderson. Colburn, sophomore
Malia Hinton and senior
Emily Martz played all 110 minutes.
Chatham looks to get back in the win column on Wednesday, September 22 in the first of two "Play with Pride" games, this one against Mount Aloysius at UPMC Graham Field. Kickoff is set for 7:00.
