PITTSBURGH, Pa. - September 10, 2021 - Chatham Men's Soccer hosted Mount Union this afternoon in the first game of the Nate Ferraro classic. Despite a valiant effort by the Cougars, the Purple Raiders came away with a 2-0 victory.
Chatham hung with an aggressive Mount Union team, who accumulated 14 fouls throughout the course of the game as a means of combating the Cougars' speed.
The Purple Raiders scored on their first shot of the game at the 11-minute mark, but struggled to get by first-year goalkeeper Nathaniel Esch for the remainder of the half.
The Chatham defense held strong, seeing heroic efforts from juniors Gunnar Graham and Emmet Taub, sophomore Bryce Phillips, and seniors Ken Richard and Ryan Tahbaz.
The Cougars had some solid offensive chances, landing three shots on goal from Richard, Phillips, and first-year Stephen Comeaux. Taub contributed to the offense as well, generating a close scoring opportunity in front of the net that just missed.
Esch kept the Purple Raiders frustrated at the other end, making a career-high 11 saves.
Chatham returns to Graham on Sunday at noon for another non-conference matchup against Elmhurst.
