PITTSBURGH, Pa. - April 28, 2021 - Chatham Women's Soccer hosted the Westminster Titans this afternoon in the semifinal round of the PAC Championships. After scoreless regulation and double overtime periods, Chatham came out on top with four successful penalty kicks, limiting Westminster to just two.
The game was a battle of the defense with both Westminster and Chatham managing four shots. Chatham's aggressive style of play kept Westminster frustrated, leaving them unable to capitalize on Chatham's six first half fouls.
The second half saw an increase in shots, with both goalkeepers logging five saves each. It would be Westminster leading the half in fouls, having to turn up their intensity to keep up with the Cougars.
Regulation ended scoreless and led to two more scoreless periods of overtime. The Cougars and Titans finished with 11 and 10 shots on goal respectively. Senior Genevieve Zeswitz led the Cougar offense with three of those shots, followed by junior Morgan Anderson with two of her own.
In goal, sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Colburn stopped all 10 shots faced across regulation and two overtime periods.
With the score still tied at zero, the game moved into penalty kicks. Westminster shot first, unsuccessfully. Sophomore Greta Mort would log Chatham's first goal of the shootout, followed by a Westminster goal.
Juniors Kere O'Donnell and Paxton Steffy were next up for the Cougars and both delivered, getting the Cougars ahead 3-1.
The outcome of the shootout would ultimately fall on first-year Malia Hinton's shoulders, and she ended the game with a shot off of Westminster's goalkeeper that would end up in the net. With that, the Cougars had the walk-off 4-2 win and a ticket to the PAC Championship game.
The Cougars will take the field at Grove City on Saturday, May 1st, at 4 PM to battle it out with the Wolverines in a repeat matchup of the 2019 Championship game.
