Women’s Soccer Defeats Grove City for First-Ever PAC Title

GROVE CITY, Pa. - May 1, 2021 - In a historic Presidents' Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Championship game, #2 seeded Chatham defeated the #1 seed Grove City 3-1 to earn their first-ever PAC Title.

Chatham was the first to score in the game, which was also their first goal against Grove City this season. Graduate forward Kyla Kelley found the back of the net after receiving a pass from sophomore Olivia Wood.

Junior Paxton Steffy was next on the board in the 30th minute, tucking the ball just under the crossbar to put the Cougars up 2-0 over the Wolverines.

Grove City answered back a mere 24 seconds later, and the half would remain 2-1 through its conclusion.

Maggie Toomey put Chatham up by two once again with her second half goal at the 76 minute mark, which would ultimately be the last goal of the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Colburn stood strong in net, steering away five out of six shots faced. Graduate Breanna Oltman and senior Kylie Redcay were relentless on defense, shutting the Wolverine offense down all game long.

Key offensive opportunities were generated by sophomore Olivia Wood and senior Genevieve Zeswitz, who led the Cougars in shots on goal with three and two respectively.

The win not only marks Chatham's first title win, but their first win over Grove City in program history. The match is a reversal of the 2019 PAC Women's Soccer Championship result which ended in a 4-1 win for Grove City.

Women's Soccer is the only Cougars team to win a PAC Championship since the Men's Basketball team in the 2018-19 season.
