PITTSBURGH, Pa. - April 21, 2021 - Chatham Lacrosse hosted Saint Vincent College his evening for their second meeting of the year. Despite a non-conference loss last month, the Cougars stole much-needed conference points from the Bearcats with a 9-7 win.
Chatham and Saint Vincent were held to an even 0-0 until the ten minute mark when Saint Vincent began their scoring streak. The Bearcats earned the only three goals of the quarter.
Senior Daniel Napier was the first on the board for the Cougars, catching a pass from first-year Riley Lewis and finding the back of the net.
Senior Adam Bleess had the follow-up goal just three minutes later to cut Saint Vincent's lead down to one.
Saint Vincent would score two last-minute goals to end the first half, but senior Tyler Hayes responded with a third quarter goal with yet another assist to Riley Lewis.
After another Bearcat goal, Napier took matters into his own hands, getting a shot off thanks to a setup from classmate Tyler Hayes. Riley Lewis would get his own goal soon after, assisted by fellow first-year Isaac Joshi.
Saint Vincent would score only once more in the game at the beginning of the fourth quarter, followed by four unanswered goals from Chatham.
Bleess was back on the board with a man-up goal, taking advantage of a perfect pass from senior Dillon Dugan. Napier completed his hat trick just minutes later, tying the game at seven. A tie game was high time for Bleess to finish his hat trick as well, giving Nicholas Guaglione his second straight assist. Hayes would get the insurance goal for the Cougars in the final four minutes, shutting the Bearcats down for good.
Junior goalkeeper Shane Gaglione was lights out in net, making a season-high 16 saves. Sophomore Zach Mayan won eight face-offs, with Chatham's other win coming from senior Ben Neal who led the game in ground balls with six and caused turnovers with three.
The Cougars intend to continue their win streak as they host Bethany College on Saturday, April 24th at 1 PM.
