Bleess Makes History, Cougars Roll Over Bison

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - April 24, 2021 - Chatham Men's Lacrosse hosted Bethany this afternoon in a PAC matchup. Chatham came out on top by a nine goal margin, ending the game with a final score of 17-8.

First-year Isaac Joshi opened up the scoring window for the Cougars, putting them ahead just three minutes into the game.

Senior Adam Bleess, who came into the game just two points shy of 100, was next on the board, scoring the first of his four goals. By his second goal, Bleess became the first player in Chatham Lacrosse history to achieve 100 career points.

Kyle Prewitt supplemented Chatham's first two goals with two of his own with assists to Andrew Mattingly and Dillon Dugan. Bleess and Nicholas Guaglione added one goal each between, leading the Cougars to a 6-1 first quarter finish.

The second quarter saw seven Cougar goals and just two from the Bison. Dillon Dugan scored back to back goals before Guaglione and Bleess added one each. Andrew Mattingly scored twice to end the half with Dillon Dugan completing his hat trick in between.

Bethany focused their energy on defense, restricting the Cougars to just two goals per quarter. Senior Ben Neal took an offensive opportunity that paid off, thanks to a pass from Riley Lewis. Tyler Hayes, who had a team-high three assists on the day, scored an unassisted goal to close out the third.

Halfway through the final quarter, Prewitt achieved his hat trick and Bleess scored the final goal of the game to give Chatham a total of 17.

Sophomore Zach Mayan won a season-high 17 face-offs and also led the Cougars in ground balls with 9. In goal, junior Shane Gaglione had 12 saves.

The Cougars' next matchup is Monday, April 26th, where they get a rematch for PAC points against Westminster College.
