Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Second Half Explosion Leads to Chatham Win

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – April 16, 2021 – The Chatham men's soccer team tallied five goals in the second half, rocketing past the visiting Thiel Tomcats 6-0 on Senior Night. Chatham's record improves to 1-7 on the year and in PAC play.

Chatham set the tone early with several shots being sent Thiel's direction. However, the Cougars did not score until the final minute of action in the first half. Sophomore Marco Piccolo scored his first goal of the season at 44:11 to give the Cougars the 1-0 cushion heading into half.

Little did the fans know that the late first half goal would be a sign of things to come. Chatham struck to the tune of five goals, three straight scored by first-year Pascal Despinos in the 47th, 57th and 60th minutes. Despinos became the first Cougar in men's soccer history to record a hat trick, getting assists by sophomore Ryan Tahbaz, sophomore Emmet Taub and first-year Luke Lingo on each of the scores.

Tahbaz added a penalty kick goal in the 62nd minute of action, his third such score of the year. Chatham added one more in the 68th minute by sophomore Leandro Nasso, finishing the scoring at 6-0 to give the Cougars their first win of 2021.

Several program records fell during the 6-0 win. It marks Chatham's most lopsided victory in program history and the second half's five goals were the most scored in any half in program history. The Cougars also had a program record 36 shots and 18 shots on goal. Despinos also set single-game program records with most points (6), shots (10) and shots on goal (6).

Chatham outshot Thiel 36-5 including 18-3 on goal. Both teams attempted six corner kicks and the Cougars committed 15 fouls compared to the Tomcats' eight. First-year Timmy Creamer recorded his first collegiate shutout, making three saves in the process.

The Cougars hit the road on Saturday, April 24 at Bethany College for the final scheduled game of the regular season at 4 p.m.
