BETHANY, W.Va. – April 24, 2021 – The Chatham men's soccer team fell behind in the first half but came roaring back in the second and drew a tie with the Bethany Bison 3-3.
The Cougars got on the board first after sophomore
Leandro Nasso scored off of a pass from first-year
Pascal Despinos in the fifth minute. Unfortunately for Chatham, Bethany went on to score the next three goals, taking a 3-1 lead into the half.
In the second half, Despinos took over. He scored in the 54
th minute to pull the Cougars to within one, and then tied the game in the 83
rd minute of action. Chatham forced the game to double overtime, but neither team could get on the scoreboard in the extended periods.
For the game, Chatham was outshot 18-15 total and 14-9 on goal. The Cougars were narrowly edged in corner kicks 5-4, but Bethany had two yellow cards issued.
Despinos had four shots on goal to go along with having his name etched into all three scores. Other shots on goal were by sophomores
Ken Richard,
Marco Piccolo,
Ryan Tahbaz and
Franco Ibanez. First-year
Timmy Creamer tied a career-high 11 saves in net.
Chatham finishes the regular season at 1-7-1 overall and in conference play.
