WASHINGTON, Pa. – April 14, 2021 – The Chatham women's lacrosse team traveled to Washington County with hopes of improving to 4-0 on the conference schedule, but those hopes were dashed by the Presidents of Washington & Jefferson 20-11. The Cougars fall to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
After W&J scored the first two goals of the game early on, Chatham got one back at the 3:22 mark. Unfortunately, the Cougars had to play catchup for the entirety of the game. Chatham got the score as close as 4-3 with 17:26 to play in the half before W&J scored five of the final six goals heading into the break.
Much like the first half, W&J scored the first two goals before the Cougars clawed one back. W&J was firmly in control for the majority of the second half as Chatham did not register back-to-back goals until late in the contest.
Chatham was outshot 33-20 for the game, including 28-18 on goal. The Cougars also turned it over 30 times compared to W&J's 26 while both teams scooped up 31 ground balls. Sophomore goalkeeper
Aria Dietrich made eight saves in the losing effort.
Graduate
Bria Braddock and first-year
Stephanie Walter both scored three goals with the former adding an assist. Graduates
Rachel Belles and
Anna Prendergast both scored twice while junior
Rachel Borucki had a goal and an assist.
The Cougars hope to rebound on Senior Day on Saturday, April 17 when it welcomes Franciscan to UPMC Graham Field for a 1:00 start.
