PITTSBURGH, Pa. – April 17, 2021 – Graduate
Bria Braddock netted a season-best eight goals, lifting the Cougars to a pivotal 15-8 conference win over Franciscan. Chatham's record improves to 6-2 on the year, 4-1 in PAC play.
Much like most of the season, the Cougars got out to a fast start after a free position goal by graduate
Rachel Belles. After Franciscan answered just seven seconds later, the Cougars got the first of eight scores from Braddock, this time off of a free position. Braddock went on to score four first half goals as Chatham led 7-4 heading into half.
Franciscan looked to have momentum heading into the second half after scoring the final two goals of the first half. However, the Cougars slammed the door shot on any hope the Barons may have had after scoring the first six goals of the second half in 11:07. Franciscan got two goals back before Braddock tucked in her seventh and eighth goals of the game, putting the Cougars up 15-6 and ending the scoring for the home team.
Despite the seven-goal win, Chatham held slim margins over Franciscan in most categories including shots (34-28), shots on goal (24-17) and clears (21-25 compared to 17-26). The Cougars scooped a whopping 47 ground balls, breaking the program record set earlier this year vs. Westminster.
Aiding Braddock's eight goals and nine points were graduates Belles at three scores and
Anna Prendergast with two goals. Junior
Brielle Rapsas had a goal and an assist, with the latter statistic tying the single-season program record at 15 on the year. Sophomores
Mikaela Lane and
Phallon Kilduff also handed out an assist each.
The Cougars host the Saint Vincent Bearcats in a rematch from March 28 on Thursday, April 22 at UPMC Graham Field with a 7:30 start time.
