REISTERSTOWN, MD - March 20, 2021 - Chatham faced Stevenson for the fourth time this season at Reisterstown Sportsplex. After a Chatham victory in the first conference game, the Mustangs had a late rally to earn their equalizing points this evening.
The Mustangs got the jump on the Cougars, scoring the sole goal of the first period after almost 18 minutes of play.
It would take until the second half of the second period for the Cougars to answer back, coming in the form of a goal from senior Chad Bell, with assists to Carson Grainer and Cory King.
Stevenson came back stronger in the third, scoring five goals in a span of 11 minutes and 30 seconds.
However, Chatham did not back down from the five-goal deficit. Senior Niko Moulakelis was the first to strike, taking a feed from Tristan Hillebert and burying it for his fourth goal of the season.
Under two minutes later, Carson Grainer notched his third career goal, again taking advantage of an offensive setup by Hillebert and Noah Medalsy.
The last six minutes of the game remained scoreless, leaving the final score at 6-3 in favor of Stevenson.
Lucas Rothe led the Cougar offensive with four shots on goal, followed by Carson Grainer and Matt Mood with three. Grainer and Hillebert finished with a game-high two points. In the circle, Chris Lutz won nine face-offs.
In net, junior starter Ricardo Gonzalez made 25 saves. First-year Peter Siolas saw his first collegiate minutes in relief of Gonzalez, facing four shots.
The Cougars will play their regular season finale next weekend with games versus Elmira and at Wilkes.
