PITTSBURGH, Pa. – March 11, 2020 – On a chilly, wet Thursday evening, Chatham men's soccer opened up the men's soccer season with a disappointing 3-1 defeat to the Saint Vincent Bearcats.
The game didn't start in Chatham's favor, with the Bearcats striking quickly on a free kick just under five minutes in. Saint Vincent added onto the small lead with a crossing rebound at the 25
th minute to make it a 2-0 SVC advantage. Saint Vincent outshot Chatham 8-2 in the first half.
The Bearcats got another goal early in the second half from a penalty kick, putting SVC ahead by three at the 50
th minute. The Cougars were able to muster some shots in the final half of play and finally found the scoreboard with a PK goal from sophomore
Ryan Tahbaz. Both teams played to a stalemate for the final 20 minutes, leaving the game at the 3-1 final tally.
Chatham was outshot 12-6 for the game, 6-3 on goal. All three of Chatham's shots on goal came in the second half, where it tied Saint Vincent in that category 4-4 in the latter 45 minutes of play. Chatham held a small lead in corner kicks 8-7 and committed one fewer foul than the Bearcats.
The other two shots on goal were recorded by sophomores
Emmet Taub and
Leandro Nasso. Nasso led the team in total shots with a trio. First-year
Timmy Creamer made his first start in net, making three saves.
Chatham has a nine-day layoff before hitting the road next Saturday, March 20 at Waynesburg with a 3:30 start time.
