Box Score WASHINGTON, Pa. – February 6, 2021 – Despite starting the second half on a 13-0 run, the Chatham men's basketball team could not put away the hosting Washington & Jefferson Presidents on Saturday, falling 65-59. The loss evened Chatham's record at 1-1.
The first half was a seesaw affair that saw 9 lead changes between the two teams. W&J held control of the lead, going up by as many as eight late in the first half. The Cougars clawed back from the deficit and closed the gap to one going into the halftime break.
The second half was a tail of two halves. The first 10 minutes were dominated by Chatham. The Cougars scored the first 13 points of the half, leading to a dozen point lead for the visitors. In the latter 10 minutes of the second half, it was Washington & Jefferson who climbed back and retook the lead late. The Presidents led by as many as nine with under two minutes to play. While the Cougars closed the gap to three with just under 30 seconds left, it was too little too late.
Chatham was unable to get to the free throw line, only attempting one free throw and missing it. W&J went 13-21 from the charity stripe, including 9-16 in the second half. Chatham held a slim margin in rebounding (43-41) and field goal percentage after shooting .403 and holding W&J to .383, but were undone by 16 turnovers, 11 of which came in the second half.

Marcos Cintron led the Cougars with 16 points scored on 7-13 shooting. Senior
Malik Potter and sophomore
Brandon Lavernia chipped in a dozen points. Potter also had 10 rebounds and a pair of assists, blocks, and steals.
Chatham looks to bounce back on Wednesday night when it hosts Saint Vincent at 7 PM.
