PITTSBURGH, Pa. – February 20, 2021 – In a game littered with stellar shooting, the Chatham men's basketball team lost 91-83 to the red-hot Geneva Golden Tornadoes Saturday afternoon at the Athletic and Fitness Center. The loss dips Chatham's record to 2-3.
The first half was a battle between Geneva's Joel Stutz and sophomore
Marcos Cintron. The duo combined for 34 points, with Cintron netting 15 in the first half on 5-6 from the field and 3-4 from behind the arc.
Chatham led by as many as 10 early in the first half despite the first 20 minutes being nearly dead even. Chatham shot at an even 50% clip in the first half from the field and from three.
However, the Cougars could not keep up the torrid pace in the second half. Despite still shooting .484 from the field, it paled in comparison to Geneva's .607 from the floor, including 9-13 from three.
For the game, Chatham shot .492 from the field and 11-24 (.458) from deep. However, Geneva shot over 50% from the floor and finished 17-28 (.607) from three-point range. Chatham won the turnover battle 16-12.
Cintron led Chatham with 22 points on the game off 8-13 shooting and 4-8 from three. Senior
Malik Potter added 19 points, 15 of which came in the latter 20 minutes of play. Junior
Markell Riggins chipped in a dozen points, while classmate
Ben Pollock absorbed 14 rebounds, 10 on the defensive side, and swiped three blocks.
The Cougars will look to get back to .500 on the year with a road matchup at PAC newcomer Franciscan on Monday, February 22 at 6 PM.
