Men’s Basketball Lights Up Franciscan

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – February 22, 2021 – The Chatham men's basketball team went from dropping a shootout to winning another in a span of 48 hours after Monday's 94-82 victory over Franciscan. The win evens Chatham's record at 3-3 with three games to go in the shortened 2021 season.

The first half was a fairly even affair, with the Cougars narrowly outscoring the Barons 42-41 despite Franciscan shooting at over 50%. The Cougars led for the majority of the first half minus a five-point swing for the hosts, but Chatham never led by double digits.

The second half was a different story. For the second time this season, Chatham cracked the 50-point plateau in a half, notching 52 in a runaway 20-minutes. For the half, Chatham shot .526 from the field.

Despite being outrebounded 38-35, Chatham won the turnover battle 24-18. It also tallied a quartet of blocks, and the Cougars spread the ball around with 23 total assists.

The Cougars got quality minutes from all five of their starters. Four of them scored in double figures and shot 50% or better. Senior Malik Potter led all scorers with 22 points, including four triples on ten tries from deep. Junior Ben Pollock had an outstanding first half with 12 points, finishing the game with 18. He led the team as well with eight boards. Sophomores Markell Riggins and Marcos Cintron scored 17 and 16 points, respectively. The fifth starter, junior Markell Riggins, had a co-team high six assists.
