REISTERSTOWN, MD - February 12th, 2021 - Chatham Men's Hockey opened their season against Stevenson University this afternoon in a non-conference matchup. Despite a hard-fought game, the Cougars ultimately fell to the Mustangs 4-1.
The Mustangs took an early lead when first-year Mac Lowry capitalized on a net-front opportunity just one minute and 22 seconds into the game. The Cougars soon found their footing, answering back six minutes later with a power play goal by junior Tristan Simm, assisted by Michael Lamison.
The second period was a back and forth battle with neither team scoring. Chatham tallied four shots while Stevenson poured on 14.
After nearly 40 scoreless minutes, the Mustangs eventually ended the stalemate with a power play goal at 12:14 in the third, again by Lowry. They added another even strength goal before putting an empty netter home as insurance.
Junior goaltender Ricardo Gonzalez had an active day in net, stopping 33 of the 36 shots he faced. Gonzalez made good use of his athleticism, making tough saves and preventing the Mustangs from gaining momentum throughout the game.
The Cougars take on the Mustangs once again tomorrow, February 13th, at 4:40 PM on home ice.
