Men's Hockey Falls Short to Stevenson in Non-Conference Rematch

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - February 13, 2021 - Chatham Men's Hockey had another opportunity this evening to beat the Stevenson University Mustangs, but came up short. The Cougars lost 4-1 despite scoring the first goal of the game. This game was the final non-conference matchup for the Cougars before they enter UCHC play on the 18th against Manhattanville.

The first period started as an even matchup with both teams getting their fair share of opportunities. Senior Cory King broke open the scoring first with just under six minutes left in the period thanks to help from junior Tristan Simm and senior Jake Reed. The Cougars recorded a game-high 10 shots in the period and kept Stevenson to a mere six.

With under 15 seconds remaining in the period, Stevenson's Chad Watt scored the equalizer.

In the second period, Stevenson scored their game-winner and insurance goal. Chatham recorded three second period penalties, though the Mustangs did not capitalize on any. Junior goaltender Ricardo Gonzalez recorded 11 saves in the period, holding down the fort for the shorthanded Cougars.

Gonzalez came up big again in the third period, stopping nine of 10 shots fired his way. The Cougars mustered six shots in the remaining 20 minutes, but to no avail.

First-year Carson Grainer recorded a game-high 5 shots, followed by Tristan Simm and Cory King with three apiece.

King and fellow senior Chris Lutz each won a game-high 7 face-offs in the circle.

Junior Anthony Dom and first-year Aidan Girduckis contributed four and three blocks respectively.

The Cougars will face off against Manhattanville College next Thursday, February 18th, in Aston, Pa. to kick off conference play, followed by a matchup against Neumann on Friday.
