HERSHEY, Pa. – December 3, 2021 – The Chatham men's hockey team righted the ship after a sweet 6-2 drubbing of hosting Lebanon Valley in Hershey. The Cougars go to 2-4-2 on the season and even their record at 2-2-2 in UCHC play.
After a first period that went by almost without a hitch, the Cougars struck first with 1:39 remaining in the stanza with an unassisted goal by first-year
Tyler Inlow. The Wichita, Kansas native's first career goal made it 1-0 Chatham at the end of the first.
It didn't take much longer for Chatham to strike again. This time, sophomore
Max Wigfield was the one who notched the unassisted goal to make it 2-0. LVC sliced the deficit in half 5:20 later, but then the Cougars added two more for good measure. First was junior
Andrew Warhoftig from classmate
Kenneth Gill, and the second was from first-year
Zack Conner with Warhoftig and Gill assisting, making the score 4-1 after two.
Lebanon Valley scored early in the third period, making the score 4-2 for the majority of the third. However, the Cougars scored twice in 24 seconds late in the stanza to officially put the game out of reach. First-year
Evan Mitchell lasered his first career goal after Inlow and sophomore
Liam Murphy assisted. The scoring was rounded out shortly thereafter by senior
Michael Lamison, getting a hand from Wigfield.
The Cougars outshot Lebanon Valley 32-29, with 18 of Chatham's shots coming in the second period. One of the stories of the game for Chatham was the penalty kill. Despite the two goals allowed being on the Dutchmen power play, the Cougars killed off seven of the nine extra-man opportunities. Senior goalie
Ricardo Gonzalez made 27 saves in net.
Chatham has one more UCHC game before the holiday break tomorrow, December 4 at Arcadia. Puck drops at 3:30.
