SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – November 27, 2021 – The Chatham men's hockey team battled from a 3-0 deficit to force the game into overtime. However, the Cougars could not capitalize on the momentum as they fell to Skidmore 4-3 in the opening game of the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational. The loss drops Chatham's record to 1-4-2 overall.
The first period did not go in Chatham's favor, giving up two goals in the first 20 minutes, one at 6:36 and another at 18:26. The regulation scoring for the Thoroughbreds was capped off just a little over two minutes into the second.
With the Cougars facing a sizable deficit, a pair of power play opportunities came in the second. The first was cashed in by senior
Michael Lamison after a double assist from junior
Andrew Warhoftig and sophomore
Chris Dusek. The second was scored at around five minutes remaining by sophomore
Max Wigfield. Assists were by junior
Aidan Girduckis and senior
Tristan Simm.
With time winding down on the Cougars, sophomore
Liam Murphy scored his first career goal at a prime opportunity to tie the game with just over three minutes remaining in regulation. Notching their second assists were Warhoftig and Lamison. Skidmore went on the attack in the overtime period, and it led to the overtime goal with a minute and a half to go.
The Cougars were outshot 37-21 for the game and held 10 fewer faceoff wins than the Thoroughbreds. A glaring positive was the power play, in which Chatham went 2-for-4 in extra-man opportunities while denying Skidmore on both of its chances.
Chatham will participate in the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational consolations tomorrow, November 28 against the loser of Connecticut College and SUNY Brockport. The puck drops at 1:00.
