PITTSBURGH, Pa. – November 13, 2021 – The Chatham men's hockey team picked up its first win of the season Saturday night with a 5-2 triumph over Nazareth.
After allowing a first period goal by the visiting Golden Flyers, Chatham responded with two unanswered. The first goal was recorded by junior
Kenneth Gill who got an assist from classmate
Tristan Hillebert while the second featured senior
Tristan Simm scoring after a feed by classmate
Michael Lamison.
Nazareth began the second by tying the game at 2-2, but the Cougars were able to add one that ultimately proved to be the game winner, a goal in front of the crease by junior
Andrew Warhoftig after a double assist by first-year
Dimitri Wey and sophomore
Max Wigfield.
The Cougars would only add to that lead in the third period, when Wey provided some insurance by scoring his first collegiate goal on the power play. Simm and junior
Aidan Girduckis both had assists. The final tally was an empty net goal by junior
Ben Lamm.
The Cougars were outshot 48-31 but won the game thanks to balanced scoring and an outstanding effort in goal by senior
Ricardo Gonzalez. The program's all-time leader in wins and saves made 46 stops to help preserve the victory.
Chatham gets set for a pair of home matches starting on Friday, November 19 when it plays host to Neumann in UCHC play. Puck drop is 7:00 at the Frozen Pond Arena.
