Volleyball Makes Short Work of Waynesburg on the Road

WAYNESBURG, Pa. - October 23, 2021 - Chatham University Volleyball traveled to Waynesburg University this morning for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup against the Yellow Jackets. The Cougars limited the game to just four sets, winning the first, second, and fourth 25-20, 25-22, and 25-23 respectively.

Despite the Yellow Jackets getting off to an early lead in set one, the Cougars showed resilience in taking the lead right back from them. Junior Shaelah Pepperman served for four straight Cougar points, lifting them into 1 two-point lead halfway through the set. First-years Jessica Taney and Kaley Davis would kick up on Pepperman's momentum, tallying several kills each. Junior Rylee Ritko and graduate Macy King would tag in as well, with the final kill of the set coming from sophomore Amelia Bogovich following one of several service aces on the day from classmate Adrianna Conforti.

Set two featured a large lead from the Cougars, thanks to kills from Bogovich, Davis, King, and senior Emily Richie. The Yellow Jackets would come into a two-point range late in the game, but the Cougar defense would not allow them any more leeway than that as Bogovich had the final cross-court kill of the set.

Waynesburg would find a way to limit Chatham's offense to just 17 points in the third set, but were unable to sustain that technique in the fourth. Despite a close fourth set, the Cougars came out on top at 25-23. Dominant offense was again provided by Amelia Bogovich, Macy King, and Kaley Davis, as well as Richie and Pepperman. Bortak's strategic timeout at the 24-23 mark would give the Cougars the final rest they needed to down the Yellow Jackets for the season.

In the Cougars' 16th win of the season, Amelia Bogovich became the all-time single season record holder for service aces, going into the match with the record-tying 41 and surpassing it by five.

Bogovich also lead the Cougars in kills with 10 on the day, sharing the spotlight with Kaley Davis. Shaelah Pepperman had 31 assists on the Cougars' 39 kills, adding 11 digs. Sophomore libero Meghan Dominek added a game-high 25 digs, followed closely by Paige Bogozi with 21.

The Cougars return home on Tuesday, October 26th in their Dig Pink match against Saint Vincent, followed by senior Night on Thursday, October 28th against Thiel.
