Cougars Upset Titans, Deal Them First Conference Loss

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - October 20, 2021 - Chatham Men's Soccer hosted the PAC's current #1 team, Westminster, tonight at Graham Field. Chatham would end the game with a two-goal deficit in their favor, dealing Westminster their first conference loss of the season.

Chatham's offense was off to a dominant start, controlling the ball in the Westminster zone from kickoff on. Senior Ryan Tahbaz would strike first, capitalizing on a pass from sophomore Charles Archer to stun the Titans, putting them down 1-0. With the goal, Tahbaz became the first player in program history to reach double-digit goals in a season.

Junior Marco Piccolo was up next, again thanks to a set-up from Archer, no more than three minutes later. Down by two, the Titans would score just once to settle the Cougars on their scoring spree within the first 12 minutes of the game.

The Cougars were not done running the table, however. Tahbaz found the back of the net once more, this time thanks to first-year Xander Pinto, to reach his 50th career point, the first in program history to do so.

Up by two again, the Cougars focused on their defense. Their defensive system kept the Titans frustrated as they drew 10 fouls, managing just one more goal. Thanks to the Cougar defensive force, that was all they would get.

First-year Stephen Comeaux was a brick wall in front of the net, making several saves of his own. Classmate Trevor Rose was fantastic as usual, making eight huge saves to shut down the high-scoring Westminster squad.

Leandro Nasso put the nail in the coffin with just seconds to go, thanks to a long pass from Pinto who was clearing the defensive zone.

With the win, the Cougars improve to 4-3 in conference, along with earning the bragging rights for becoming the first team to defeat the Titans. The Cougars look to continue their dominant play style on Saturday, October 23rd with their trip to Franciscan University.
