BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – October 13, 2021 – The Chatham women's soccer team continued its winning ways with a 4-0 blanking of Geneva on the road Wednesday night. The win improves Chatham's record to 7-3-1 overall and 5-0 in conference action.
It took some time for the Cougars to crack the scoreboard, 31:25 to be exact. After seven shots missed the mark, the eighth found its target off the foot of senior
Morgan Anderson. It was the first of three goals scored in 2:25.
Anderson found the nylon again after getting an assist from graduate
Kyla Kelley just 55 seconds after the ice breaking goal. Then, just 90 seconds later, junior
Greta Mort fired a laser towards the Geneva goal to make the score 3-0. That tally held at the halftime break.
The final score was notched in the 73
rd minute after junior
Cassidy Martin found classmate
Maggie Toomey for their first assist and first goal of the season, respectively. The Golden Tornadoes sent away a few shots in the second half, but it was in vain as the hosts were blanked 4-0.
Chatham outshot Geneva 17-7 for the match and 9-3 on goal. This included a wide 12-2 gap in the first 45 minutes of action. The Cougars also attempted three corners, all taken in the second half.
Playing all 90 minutes were junior goalkeeper
Tyler Colburn along with seniors
Emily Martz and
Paxton Steffy. Colburn made three saves in her fifth shutout of the season. Anderson had three shots on goal, junior
Emily Harvey had two, and tallying one apiece along with the goal scorers were first-year
Hannah Thomas and Kelley.
Chatham enters a critical stretch of the season where it faces the three other teams that made the PAC playoffs last season in consecutive order. First up is a PAC Championship rematch with Grove City on the road starting at 4:00 on Saturday.
