PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Dec. 21st, 2019 - The Cougars (7-3, 2-1) were back on the court as they faced off against a cross town rival Carnegie Mellon (6-2, 0-0) on Saturday, December 21st. Chatham was coming off a tough road loss to Washington and Jefferson on Wednesday, December 18th as they fell to the Presidents by a final of 63-51.
Carnegie Mellon struck first, going out ahead of the Cougars 9-1 in the first four minutes of the game. Chatham continued to struggle offensively throughout much of the first half, shooting only 21% from the field. Junior Malik Potter was the leading scorer in the half for the Cougars with 10 points, as they found themselves trailing Carnegie Mellon 42-27 at the break.
The Tartans would open the second half with an 11-0 run making the score 53-27. The Cougars shooting woes from the first carried over into the second, as they shot only 27.5% from the field for the half. Chatham was unable to make a comeback, as they would eventually fall to Carnegie Mellon 86-64.
Potter led all scorers with 26 points, while first year Marcos Cintron chipped in 12 points of his own.
The Cougars are back crashing the boards on Tuesday, December 31st as they will travel to Pitt Greensburg. They are back home at the den on Wednesday, January 8th against conference opponent Bethany College.
