READING, PA. – Nov. 15, 2019 – The Chatham University women's hockey team secured the victory against Alvernia in the first away matchup of conference play 5-3.
RECORDS: The Cougars improve to 2-1-1 (1-0-1 UCHC) while Alvernia falls to 2-3-0 (0-3-0 UCHC).
WHAT'S NEXT: Chatham faces Stevenson on the road Saturday, November 16th. Puck drop is set for 3:00 p.m.
SCORING SUMMARY: Alvernia got on the scoreboard first with a power-play goal.
Nearing the end of the first period, Chatham answered with a goal from
Rylee Schumacher assisted by
Holly Ackerman tying the score 1-1 at the end of the first.
Sydney Collins scored for Chatham halfway through the second period, making the score 2-1.
Alvernia then tied the game six minutes later 2-2.
The Cougars scored three goals in the third period, two only a few minutes apart.
Kerry Carr scored the first goal, assisted by Collins.
Ackerman scored the second goal on a power-play from
Dena Akers and
Grace Johnson making the score 4-2.
Alvernia answered back and scored pulling the game closer with a score of 4-3.
Maddie Black scores the final and empty net goal with an assist from
Danielle Bos making the final score 5-3.
GOALTENDING: Devon Strachan secured the victory for the Cougars making 28 saves, including 15 in the second period and 12 in the third period.
SHOTS LEADER: Carr and
Brooke Almond led the Chatham attack with six shots each.
FACEOFFS: Ackerman
won 10 draws while
Collins went 14-11 in the circle.
