PITTSBURGH, PA. – Nov. 17, 2017 – Despite trailing by just one goal twice in the third period, the Chatham University men's hockey team dropped a hard-fought 3-1 contest to UCHC opponent Nazareth in the program's home opener at Frozen Pond Arena on Friday night.
RECORDS: The Cougars drop to 0-4-1, 0-3-0 UCHC while the Golden Flyers improve to 3-3-0, 2-1-0 UCHC.
WHAT'S NEXT: Chatham will remain at the friendly confines of Frozen Pond, playing host to Utica in conference action, with the puck drop at approximately 7:20 pm.
SCORING SUMMARY: Nazareth jumped on top 1-0 at 14:06 in the first period as this remained the score until the third stanza.
In the third period, the Golden Flyers went ahead 2-0 at 8:14 before sophomore forward
Jace Burton (Aurora, Ill./Philadelphia Jr. Flyers) cut the deficit to 2-1 with less than two minutes in regulation, thanks to feeds from sophomore forward
Clay Plyler (Pittsburgh, Pa./New England Wolves) and first-year forward
Cory King (Albuquerque, N.M./Oklahoma City Blazers).
Pulling the goaltender and playing empty net with an extra attacker, the risk went in favor of Nazareth as the Golden Flyers scored with 59 seconds left to put the game away.

Kevin Fees (Findlay, Ohio/Wichita Falls) led the attack with four shots.
PENALTIES: Both teams had five power play opportunities but neither could capitalize with the man advantage. Nazareth outshot Chatham 11-6 on the power play and 37-22 overall.
GOALTENDING: First-year netminder
Matt Calas (Mississauga, Ont./Ancaster Avalanche) played well in net, making 33 saves on the night, including 13 stops in the first period.
FACEOFFS: First-year forward
Chris Lutz (Curtice, Ohio/Soo Eagles) won a team-high nine draws for the Cougars.
