Kevin McDonough enters his 5th year as Head Men's Lacrosse Coach in 2024-25. McDonough is the second coach in Chatham Men's Lacrosse history and will lead the program into its eighth season in 2024.
In his first four season’s at Chatham, McDonough has led the Cougars to two PAC tournaments. In his first season in 2021, the Cougars had their best PAC conference season to date, going 4-1 in PAC play. First time program wins over St. Vincent College & Westminster College led to Chatham hosting a PAC Tournament game for the 1st time in program history. During his 4th season, the Cougars tied the program record for wins in a season, going 9-8.Â
McDonough has coached a total of 27 All-PAC performers. He has coached two PAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Years (Tyler Hayes in 2021 & Logan Blankenship in 2024). Jacob Lubawy was named PAC Newcomer of the Year in 2023, the 2nd time a Chatham player has won a major conference award. After the 2024 season, Logan Blankenship was named a USILA Scholar All-American for his performance on the field and in the classroom; he is the program’s 1st ever Scholar All-American. In addition, over the past four seasons, forty-five Men’s Lacrosse players have placed on the PAC Spring Honor Roll which recognizes student-athletes who earn a 3.6 GPA or higher.
The lacrosse program has also gotten involved with charitable organizations. In the fall of 2021, the Men’s Lacrosse team raised over $10,000 for the Headstrong Foundation. The Headstrong foundation works closely with families that are affected by cancer. The team grew mustaches in addition to raising money so that they could raise awareness about the effects of cancer.  In the fall of 2023, the program raised over $2,000 for the National Brain Tumor Society. The program has gotten involved within the community of Wilkinsburg where Graham Field is located. Players have teamed up with the Wilkinsburg Community Ministry and worked at a food pantry, they’ve also worked with the Wilkinsburg Community Development Corporation, doing a clean up of the Wilkinsburg area.
For the past four springs, in the post-season, Coach McDonough has served as one of the PAC representatives on the USILA Regional All-American Selection Committee. He has also served on the USILA Coaches Poll over the past four seasons.Â
While at Chatham, Coach McDonough has also made efforts to connect locally within the Pittsburgh lacrosse community. Chatham Lacrosse has held three youth camps in the summer, while also running four prospect camps over the past four years. McDonough is also the High School Director for True Pittsburgh Lacrosse, where he assists with coaching, practice planning and developing the high school players within the club program.
McDonough, an Oakdale, New York native, comes from Ohio Wesleyan University where he served as the defensive coordinator for two seasons. At OWU, he was charged with practice planning, equipment management, recruiting coordination, strength and conditioning organization, and academic advising to his student-athletes. In the 2019 season, McDonough helped five Ohio Wesleyan players to All-Conference Defensive honors and one defenseman to a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Newcomer of the Year accolade. Prior to OWU, McDonough served as an assistant coach at Frostburg State University, specializing in defense and face-offs. In his three years at Frostburg, he helped coach two All-Conference defensemen and three All-Americans, one of which led Division III in face-off win percentage.
"We are excited that Coach McDonough has come on board," said Director of Athletics, Leonard Trevino. "With this background and the success he has been apart of, we know that he is ready to move Chatham Lacrosse in the direction we want to go."
McDonough is a 2015 alumni of the University of Maryland-Baltimore County where he served as a two-year captain and three-year starter for their Division I lacrosse program. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from UMBC before receiving a Master of Education degree from Frostburg State in 2017.
