PITTSBURGH Pa. – The Chatham men's soccer team (2-5-2, 1-2-1 PAC) completed the twin bill sweep of the Thiel Tomcats (4-5-1, 1-2-1 PAC) with a 1-0 victory on Tuesday evening.
The Cougars offense started early when a Thiel clearance off a corner kick was collected by Chatham junior defender Charlie Ayers at the top of the box, who then sent a rocket into the back of the net for his first goal of the season. The pressure would continue as Chatham would post 6 shots on goal and 7 corner kicks in the game.
On the other side of the field, sophomore goalkeeper Elijah Smith had a relatively uneventful night while still getting credit with the first shutout of the season, with the Cougars defense not allowing a single shot on goal from the Tomcats for the first time since 2019.
The win also marks both the Cougars' first win in official conference play and the first win at home this season.
Chatham men's soccer will be on the road for their next match when they head north to Mercer County this Friday October 2nd at 7:00 PM against Grove City College.
