PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Chatham Women's Volleyball (4-5, 0-1 PAC) team extended their home win streak with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-19) sweep over West Virginia Wesleyan (6-9, 2-1 MEC) in an exhibition match during Saturday's Homecoming festivities at the Athletic & Fitness Center. 

The teams traded points for the first half of the first set before Chatham would pull away. A kill from Annelese Atkinson, Becca Gesner, and Zoie Bateman with a serving ace from Kate Giannetta would give the Cougars a 20-12 lead.  The Cougars and Bobcats would return to exchanging points for the rest of the set, but it would be an Atkinson kill that secured the opening set. 

Chatham would carry that energy into the second set, as it would be a quick one. While the Bobcats would break up the Cougars scoring every once in a while, the Cougars main scoring would come via kills from Paige Watson, Maddy Roberts, Gesner, Atkinson, Bateman, and Giannetta. Additionally, Kelly Dougherty would earn a serving ace, and Roberts would close out the set with her three consecutive serving aces.

The third set proved to be the most challenging for the Cougars. After the Bobcats tied the set 7-7, the Cougars would have enough and decide that it was time to end the match and finish the set and take control. Roberts would get a kill, followed by Evie White, Bateman, and Watson in a series of plays to make it 14-10. Roberts would then get another three kills, the Bobcats would make some errors, and Atkinson would get a kill to make it 22-14. The Cugars would then drop a few points and the Bobcats would regain control to close the gap and make it 24-19, but Bateman would make on final kill and end the match. 

Gesner lead the Cougars with 11 kills and hit .348 with just three errors on 23 attacks totaling 11.5 points. Giannetta would lead the match with 15 assists and add seven digs, two kills, and one serving ace. Roberts finished with three serving aces, nine kills, and seven digs. Dougherty was a defensive machine as she led the team in digs with 17 and had four assists, and one service ace. 

The Cougars outhit West Virginia Wesleyan .372 to .140 and held a 41-28 advantage in kills. Chatham also recorded seven service aces while allowing five. 

The Cougars return to the Athletic & Fitness Center on Wednesday, September 30th when they host the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets in their PAC home opener match at 7PM.
