Women's Soccer Secures First Win of the Season

NEW CONCORD, Ohio - The Chatham Cougars women's soccer team (1-2-1, 0-0 PAC) travel to Ohio today for the second time this season to take on the Muskingum Fighting Muskies (1-3, 0-0 OAC), and would return home with a 2-1 victory and their first win of the season.

The Fighting Muskies would open the scoring just two minutes into the match when they were able to find the back the net and put themselves ahead 1-0. That would be the first and last time they found the back of the net during the match. The Cougars were unable to respond with any goals of their own during the first half.

Just seven minutes into the second half though, sophomore DeLanna Colarusso would play a ball to senior Sarah Vescio and she would put the Cougars on the board and tie the match 1-1. The match would remain tied, until Vescio played freshman Alaina Gould a ball that allowed her to score and put the Cougars ahead 2-1 in the 87th minute to secure the win.

Freshman goalkeeper Gianna Trunzo and the Cougar back line were able to hold the Fighting Muskies to that lone goal for the remaining 88 minutes of the match, and only allowed them three other shots on goal.

While the Cougars may have only scored two goals, they outshot the Fighting Muskies 20-6, with 12 of those shots being on goal. With Vescio contributing three and Gould contributing two, freshman Anna Schnabel contributed three shots on goal of her own.

The Cougars are back in action this Wednesday, September 16th, when they return home to UPMC Graham Field where they will open PAC play against the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets at 5PM.
