McCandless, PA – Chatham Baseball (18-8, 4-6 PAC) traveled to La Roche (7-17, 1-7 AMCC) to face off with the Red Hawks in an afternoon affair on Thursday. The Cougars fell 10-9 after a ninth-inning comeback fell short.
The Cougars fell behind early as the Red Hawks put up 3 runs in the 1st inning. The Cougars responded in the 3rd as Sean Kelley's RBI single scored Tommy Schubert, who led off with a double down the right field line. The Red Hawks responded, putting up 5 runs in their half of the 3rd inning. In the top of the 4th, a Matt Brandt single and a Hayden Woodward walk set up Nolan Boehm for an RBI double. The Cougars wrapped up the inning, pushing 3 runs across to cut into the Red Hawks' lead. Another Nolan Boehm RBI in the 7th cut the lead to 10-6, setting the table for a dog fight in the final two innings. In the 9th, Keegan McGraw and Matt Brandt reached safely to lead the late rally. Woodward doubled home McGraw, and Boehm followed up to push Brandt across, cutting the lead to 10-8. A pinch hit by Caleb Jones, RBI, made it 10-9, with the Cougars falling just short in the final frame.
Nolan Boehm led the way offensively for the Cougars, collecting 2 extra base hits, 3 RBI, and scoring a 1 run. Hayden Woodward added 2 RBI with a run scored. Angelo DeLeonardis set the table, getting on base four times with 2 hits and 2 walks. DeLeonardis added 1 SB. Pollack, Schubert, Kelley, and Jones all collected an RBI each. On the mound, Kevin Bender pitched 4 scoreless innings out of the pen. He scattered 1 hit and struck out 5.
Baseball returns home for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 11th, playing host to conference-leading Westminster. First pitch of game 1 is slated for 11 am at historic West Field in Munhall, PA.
