PITTSBURGH, Pa. - On Saturday, the Cougars (10-3, 5-1 PAC) took on the Thiel Tomcats (2-12, 1-6) in a senior day game for the record books. The Cougars jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, winning a historic 32-1 game.
In the first quarter, the Cougars scored 10 goals and allowed none.
Luke Iovino opened the scoring with his eighth of the season. Also scoring in the first quarter was
Michael Flynn (twice),
Broden Zumbano,
Erik Sahlgren,
Thomas Whitaker,
Adam Rinker (three times, and
Cody Rosati. The Cougars held a 10-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Â Second quarter scorers for the Cougars were

Thomas Whitaker (four times),
Erik Sahlgren,
Cody Randal (twice),
Colby Wagner,
J.R. DuBose (twice), goalie
James Cipollone, and
Tyler Laughlin. The Tomcats were able to score their only goal of the game as well in the second quarter, making the halftime score 25-1. With a running clock for the entirety of the second half, the Cougars only scored seven more goals after halftime. Scoring in the third quarter was
Erik Sahlgren (twice),
Sean Creeden,
J.R. DuBose, and
Tyler Laughlin (twice). That gave the Cougars a 31-1 lead after three quarters of play. In the fourth quarter, the Cougars lone goal was scored by
Michael Flynn. That gave the Cougars a 32-1 lead that they held to the end.
The Cougars set many records in today's game.
Thomas Whitaker scored his 100th career goal and also broke the single season goals record, he now has 53.
Cody Randal set the single game face off wins record (29), single game ground ball record (20) and set the career face off wins record (466). The Cougars set their single game points record with 54.
Leading the Cougars offensively was
Erik Sahlgren with eight points (4G 4A). Three other Cougars recorded five points in the game,
Brady Rigdon (3G 2A),
Adam Rinker (3G 2A) and
Thomas Whitaker (5G). Whitaker led all Cougars with three caused turnovers.
James Cipollone, on top of scoring his first career goal, picked up his 10th win of the season, recording one save in a one goal first half. The Cougars were a perfect 10 for 10 on clears, while holding the Tomcats to 9 of 24.
The Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday April 15th when they travel to Hiram for a 6 PM match up with the Terriers.
