Cougars Fall to Bison in Both Games

PITTSBURGH, PA - It was a windy day for the Chatham Softball team (5-15, 1-5 PAC) as they failed to take down Bethany (14-3, 4-2 PAC) and dropped both games.

The Cougars would drop game one to the Bison 6-3 despite a late-inning attempt and multiple hits.

Bethany took an early lead, scoring one run in the first and another in the third. The Cougars broke through in the bottom of the fourth inning when sophomore Josie Underdonk hit a single to right field, driving home freshman Madi Gorney to cut the lead to 2-1. The Bison would extended their lead in the top of the sixth to push the score to 6-1. The Cougars wouldn't stop though as sophomore Anna Borst sparked the bottom of the sixth inning with a lead off single, followed immediately by a Gorney triple to center field. Senior Kayleen Garcia would ground out to third, allowing Gorney to score closing the deficit to 6-3 before the end of the inning.

Starting in the circle for the Cougars would be senior Victoria Murren who would pitch for five innings, striking out 4 batters. Sophomore Hannah Uhrinek and senior Sheaden Berkson would provide relief, with Berkson throwing a scoreless seventh inning.

Despite another late-inning attempt and a handful of scoring opportunities, the Cougars would still fal 5-0 to the Bison.

Bethany would take an early lead in the top of the first, and then add another in the third. The Cougars best opportunity came in the bottom of the second when freshman Gaby McTavish singled to third base. Senior Olivia Harris would then get walked, but both would be left on base at the end of the inning. The Bison would lengthen their lead in the sixth when they added three more runs. It wasn't the end though as in the bottom of the seventh, Underdonk hit a single to left field. Harris would then have a single of her own and steal second to put the Cougars in scoring position.

On the mound for 3.2 innings, Underdonk would strikeout two batters and and force eight ground outs. Berkson, freshman Caytlin Redeye, and Uhrinek would all see time on the mound as well. Uhrinek would strikeout three batters of her own while Berkson struk out one.

The Cougars will be back in action this Tuesday, March 31st, when they return to West Field to take on the W&J Presidents for two night games starting at 6:30PM & 8:30PM.
