Softball Earns First Conference Sweep Over Presidents

PITTSBURGH, PA - It was a glorious day for the Chatham Softball team (7-15, 3-5 PAC) as they were able to swep their first conference doubleheader against the Washington & Jefferson Presidents (7-11, 3-5 PAC).

The Cougars' offense was anchored by freshman Gaby McTavish and sophomore Kyla Milne who each went two-for-two and scoring a runs of their own. Senior Kayleen Garcia would be responsible for McTavish's run after she singled to right field in the first inning. Sophomore Josie Underdonk would get the RBI for Milne after singling to left field in the fourth inning. The Cougars would secure the Game one win keeping the Presidents off the board at 2-0.

As for the mound leaders in Game one, senior Victoria Murren would secure another win on the season while sophomore Hannah Uhrinek would earn another save. Murren would pitch for five innings, allowing only five hits and striking out three batters.  Uhrinek would step in to pitch for the last two innings as she allowed no hits and struck out two batters.

Game two would see more offense from both teams, but the Cougars would still emerge victorious in a 4-2 win. While Milne would be the only Cougar to earn multiple hits in Game two, going two-for-three, it would be a variety of Cougars who contributed to the four runs. It would start in the first inning when Gorney would double to center field bringing in McTavsh and sophomore Anna Borst. Milne would then follow with a double of her own and bring Gorney back into home plate. Underdonk would sacrifice herself  in the fourth inning to allow Milne to advance and Murren to score the Cougars final run of the night.

In the circle this time around would be Underdonk, earning a win, senior Sheaden Berkson, freshman Caytlin Redeye, and again Uhrinek, earning another save on the night. Underdonk would throw for 6.1 innings allowing just six hits and striking out two batters. Berkson would throw for one inning while Redeye threw for 0.2 innings. Uhrinek would come in for the last inning and secure another save with no hits allowed and two strike outs. This save made her the leader in saves in the PAC.

The Cougars are back in action this Thursday, April 2nd, when they head to Grove City to take on the Wolverines at 3:30PM and 5:30PM.
