PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Chatham Men's Volleyball (13-8, 7-4 PAC) handed Saint Vincent (14-3, 10-1) its first PAC loss of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Bearcats 3-1 (21-25, 25-23, 25-23, 26-24) at the Athletic and Fitness Center.
Tim McCabe racked up a career-high 26 kills on .292 hitting in the match, a single-game high in the PAC in 2026. The junior additionally recorded 9 digs and 5 blocks with an ace.
Derek Paul tallied 16 kills while hitting .375 with 11 digs and an ace.
Ben Shelestak had 14 kills and 2 blocks for the Cougars.
RJ Nagg dished out a season-high 53 assists, a single-game conference-best this season, and contributed 11 digs.
John Gasiorowski recorded a team-high 15 digs, and
Armani George blocked 5 Saint Vincent attacks.
McCabe's ace in the opening set gave Chatham a 15-12 lead. A 6-0 Bearcat run followed, however, and Saint Vincent was able to hang on to win set one. The Cougars trailed 12-11 in the second set before two McCabe kills and two Shelestak kills contributed to a 6-2 Cougars' run. Saint Vincent would come back to even the set at 21, but two more Shelestak kills and another kill by McCabe allowed Chatham to win 4 of the final 6 points and the set. Trailing 15-13 in set three, kills by five different Cougars fueled a 9-2 spree, and
Derek Paul was able to grab the match lead with a kill on Chatham's fourth set point. The Bearcats threatened to force a fifth set as they led 11-6 in set four, but a 10-2 Cougar run via kills by McCabe, Shelestak and George gave Chatham the lead. Saint Vincent came back to go up 21-20, but with the score knotted at 24, McCabe and Paul recorded back-to-back kills to secure the Cougars' upset victory.
Chatham hit .255 for the match while holding to Bearcats to a .209 hitting percentage. The Cougars additionally held a 62-50 edge in kills.
Chatham wraps up regular season play on Wednesday at 7 p.m. when they take on Grove City at the Athletic and Fitness Center.
