PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Chatham Men's Volleyball (11-7, 5-3 PAC) picked up a 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-21) victory over Hiram (6-9, 2-5) on Wednesday night at the Athletic and Fitness Center.
Tim McCabe recorded 10 kills on .292 hitting, 2 aces and 7 digs to lead the Cougars.
Derek Paul also tallied 10 kills while hitting .278 with 7 digs.
Ben Shelestak had 8 kills and hit .300 with 3 blocks.
Jordan Haas blocked a career-high 7 Terrier attacks.
Armani George had a .750 attack percentage on his 6 kills and recorded 3 blocks.
RJ Nagg dished out a match-high 35 assists, and
John Gasiorowski led the match in digs with 10 for Chatham.
A tight first set saw the teams tied at 9 before kills by Shelestak and McCabe put the Cougars up 12-10. A 4-0 run later in the set with the help of two more McCabe and Shelestak kills gave Chatham a 23-17 advantage, and the Cougars held on to take the match lead. Chatham went ahead 9-4 early in set two, and three kills in four points from Haas made the score 14-8. The Cougars would win 8 of the last 9 points in the second set, punctuated by a McCabe kill, to take control of the match. With the third set tied at 17, McCabe, Shelestak and Paul stepped up with kills to give Chatham a 23-20 lead. Back-to-back aces by McCabe then sealed the Cougars' victory.
Chatham's .341 hitting percentage was its best in conference play. The Cougars held a 39-28 edge in kills and a 10-3 advantage in blocks. They held Hiram to a .118 hitting percentage across the three sets.
Men's Volleyball visits Bethany on Friday for their next match, with first serve scheduled for 6 p.m.
