Men's Volleyball Takes Down Golden Tornadoes

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Chatham Men's Volleyball (10-6, 4-2 PAC) picked up their second consecutive 3-1 (25-27, 26-24, 25-19, 25-15) comeback win in PAC play on Thursday night, taking down Geneva (8-14, 2-5) for the second time this season.
 
Tim McCabe recorded a match-high 20 kills on .308 hitting for the Cougars, additionally tallying 8 digs, 6 blocks, an ace and an assist. Ben Shelestak contributed 12 kills, 7 digs, an ace and a block for Chatham. Derek Paul notched his third double-double of the season with 10 kills, 12 digs and an ace. Armani George hit .450 with 9 kills and a match-high 7 blocks. RJ Nagg dished out 47 assists, and John Gasiorowski racked up a career-high 23 digs.
 
The Cougars dropped a tight set one to begin the match. They trailed 14-11 in the second set before a 7-2 run with two George kills gave them the lead. They would squander a 24-18 advantage, but a Paul kill helped secure the set win with an extra point. Set three was a battle, as the first 3-plus point lead was taken by Chatham at 20-17 after a Shelestak ace. A 4-0 run with a McCabe kill gave the Cougars set point, and another kill by the junior gave them a 2-1 match advantage. Chatham brought its momentum into the fourth set, and early kills by Paul, McCabe and George along with an Evan Barrick ace made the score 11-5. The Golden Tornadoes trailed 14-12 until a 10-2 run with 2 kills and an ace by Paul put the match away in favor of the Cougars.
 
Chatham had a .231 hitting percentage in the match to Geneva's .111. The Cougars held a 55-47 edge in kills and an 11-4 advantage in blocks, tied for their most this season.
 
Chatham gets tomorrow to rest before heading to Saint Vincent on Saturday for a match at noon.
