Cougars Dominate Hawks On Home Ice

Pittsburgh, PA – On Friday, Chatham Women's Hockey (1-15-2, 1-8-0) faced off against visiting Hilbert (1-17-1, 0-8-0) in a critical conference matchup and their Faceoff Against Cancer game. The Cougars hammered the Hawks by a score of 6-0.

The Cougars offense was firing on all cylinders as they took it to the Hawks. At the 5:05 mark of the first period, Klara Miuller found the back of the net for her team-leading 8th goal of the season. Hailey Braaten and Avelyn Higgins set up the goal, as the Cougars quickly jumped out to a 1-0 lead. 10 minutes later, the Cougars would make it 2-0 after Isabella Allsopp netted her second of the season with assists going to Anabel Lota and Hailey Braaten, her second point of the game. Not satisfied, Lily Schmear got her 2nd of the season from Miuller and Allsopp as the Cougars went into the intermission up 3-0.

The second period saw the Cougars offense keeping the pedal to the metal. The lone goal of the period would come at the 12:25 mark of the frame, when senior Liv McTavish scored, after a strong individual effort. Her 4th goal of the season was assisted by Morgan Black and put the Cougars up by four, in full control of the game.

In the third period, the Cougars would add two more goals to finish the game in commanding fashion. Morgan Black would get on the scoresheet, scoring her 3rd of the season with an assist going to Clarissa Hayes. At 16:49, the Allsopp-Miuller connection showed up big once again for the Cougars. Allsopp scored her 2nd goal of the game after Miuller made a defender miss and set her up with a sweet net front pass.

Isabella Allsopp finished the night with 2 goals and 1 assist, tying a career high 3 points in a single game and setting a career best in single-game goals. Klara Miuller also had a 3-point game, putting up 1 goal and 2 assists. Hailey Braaten picked up 2 assists as well. Defensively, the Cougars were led in goal by senior goaltender Samantha Brophy. She was perfect, stopping all 14 shots she faced, earning the win and picking up her first shutout of the season.

Game two of the home-and-home series with the Hawks is scheduled for tomorrow, February 7th. Puck drop is slated for 6:15 pm as the Cougars eye to sweep the series, in Hamburg, NY.
