Elmira, NY – Chatham Women's Hockey (3-17-2, 2-10-0) wrapped up their road portion of the regular season against (RV) Elmira (15-5-2, 9-2-1) on Saturday. The Cougars lost a hard-fought, close game 5-3 in game two of their weekend series.
In the first period, the Soaring Eagles broke the tie, scoring at the 7:54 mark. The Cougars battled back and would even the score in the dying seconds of the frame. Klara Miuller scored her 12th goal of the season after a strong individual effort. This would put the teams tied as they entered the first intermission.
The second period saw the teams combine for five goals with three lead changes as both teams vied for a commanding lead. The Soaring Eagles struck first in the frame, going up by one goal 30 seconds into the frame. Not phased, the Cougars went on the attack. 26 seconds later, Klara Miuller scored for the Cougars, evening the score at 2-2. Miuller's 2nd goal of the game was assisted by Hailey Braaten and Isabella Allsopp. Later in the period, the Cougars gained a slim one-goal lead. Miuller completed her hat trick at 14:16, which was assisted by Braaten, making it 3-2. The Soaring Eagles answered back, netting two more before the period ended, and the Cougars entered the final frame trailing by one.
The teams would go scoreless in the third period as Elmira was able to withstand the Cougars' press for an equalizer. The Cougars had opportunities to score with a pair of power plays but were unable to solve the Eagles' netminder. They fired six shots on goal in the third as they pressed.
Klara Miuller led the Cougars offense, recording her third natural hat trick of the season and fourth multi-goal game. Hailey Braaten added two assists, setting a career high in assists, which ranks 2nd on the team, only behind linemate Isabella Allsopp, who contributed an assist of her own in tonight's game. Emery Gelinas had a game-high 3 blocks. Goaltender Morgan Miller made a career high 51 saves and finished with a .927 save percentage.
Women's Hockey returns home on Friday, February 20th, for their final series of the season against Utica. Puck drop is scheduled for 4 pm at the Alpha Ice Complex.
