Cougars Fall Short Against Cardinals

Pittsburgh, PA – Chatham Women's Hockey (1-14-2, 0-7-0) hosted St John Fisher (8-9-1, 3-3-1) on alumni weekend. The Cougars would come up short, losing to the Cardinals by a score of 5-1. 

With the alumni in the crowd, the Cougars fed off their energy and set the tone early in the first period. At the 8:42 mark, Klara Miuller scored her team-leading 7th goal of the season, unassisted, to put the Cougars up 1-0. With seven seconds left in the frame, the Cardinals tied the game 1-1, setting the stage for a critical second period.

At the 1:16 mark of the second frame, on the power play, the Cardinals scored to take their first lead of the night, 2-1. The teams would go scoreless for the rest of the frame, with the game tightening up. 

In the third period, the Cardinals extended their lead. At 5:38, they made it 3-1 after scoring at even strength. They would put the game out of reach, scoring two more unanswered goals with the latter coming short-handed.

Avelyn Higgins and Klara Miuller earned a game high 2 blocks each. Morgan Miller made 42 saves and finished with a .913 save percentage. 

The Cougars host St John Fisher for game two of their conference series tomorrow, January 31st, at the Pittsburgh Ice Arena, on senior day. The pregame senior ceremony and festivities are slated to start at 2:45 pm, with puck drop following afterwards at 3 pm.
