Rochester, NY – On Saturday, Chatham Women's Hockey (1-13-2, 0-6-0 UCHC) played game two of their conference series with Nazareth (15-0-1, 6-0-0 UCHC). The Cougars struggled to find their offense, and the Golden Flyers won by a final score of 7-1.
In the first period, Nazareth opened the scoring at the 2:34 mark. They would double their lead three minutes later and controlled much of the play the rest of the way. The Golden Flyers added another goal on the power play at 15:42 to make it 3-0.
The Golden Flyers added two more goals early in the second period. The Cougars answered back, cutting the lead to 5-1, after scoring on the power play at the 11:02 mark. Liv McTavish tipped one home for her 2nd goal of the season, with assists going to Lily Schmear and Skyler Grogan.
In the third period, the Golden Flyers added two more goals and finished the game with the final score of 7-1. Goaltender Sally Sweeney made her first appearance of her career after coming into the game in relief during the second period. Sweeney played the rest of the way strongly, making 41 saves and finishing with .953 SV%. In addition to her assist, Skyler Grogan led the team with 4 blocks.
Up next for the Cougars is a UCHC matchup with St John Fisher on January 30th. The game will also have alumni weekend festivities for Cougars players past and present. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 pm at the Pittsburgh Ice Arena.
