Cougars Outlast Cardinals to Win Sixth in a Row

Fairport, NY  – On Friday, Chatham Men's Hockey (13-2-0, 4-2-0 UCHC) traveled to and faced off against St John Fisher (9-8-0, 3-6-0 UCHC). The Cougars beat the Cardinals 6-1 to extend their winning streak to six games.  

The first period was a defensive showcase as both teams were unable to find the back of the net. Goaltender Cameron Kuntar stopped all 9 shots he faced to keep the Cardinals scoreless as the game was scoreless headed into the first intermission. 

In the second period, the Cougars would strike first. Just under 3 minutes into the frame, Caden Pendo scored his 7th of the season, assisted by Oscar Saarinen and Kowin Belsterling, to put the Cougars up 1-0. The Cougars added another goal late in the period as Bekk McClaine netted his 7th goal of the year from Pendo and True Crowe. In the dying seconds of the period, Michael Roby made it 3-0, scoring his team-leading 15th goal of the season, from Nick Cyprian and Jake LaRusso

The Cardinals would answer back at the 1:17 mark to the Cougars' lead to 3-1. The Cougars would answer back at the 8-minute mark after Breyden Zupsansky scored his 1st goal of his career from Charlie Smith. Andrew Martino would net his 5th of the season, with 45 seconds left, from McClaine and Belsterling to put the game away and clinch the 5-1 Cougars victory. 

Leading the way offensively were Caden Pendo and Bekk McClaine. They both recorded 1 goal and 1 assist, extending their point streaks to 8 and 5 games, respectively. Michael Roby also recorded his 6th straight game with a point. Kadsen Johnson led the way defensively, recording a game-high 2 blocks. Cameron Kuntar finished his night making 37 saves for a .974 SV%. 

The Cougars will be back in action tomorrow, January 24th, for game two of the series against the Cardinals. Puck drop is scheduled for 12 pm.
