Rochester, NY – On Friday, Chatham Women's Hockey (1-12-2, 0-5-0 UCHC) faced off against Nazareth (14-0-1, 5-0-0 UCHC) in a pivotal conference matchup. The Cougars fell to the Golden Flyers 6-0.
In the first period, the Golden Flyers quickly took control of the game. At 8:29, Nazareth scored on the powerplay to take the lead 1-0. A minute and a half later, the Golden Flyers doubled their lead. Heading into the first intermission, the Cougars trailed the Golden Flyers 2-0.
The second period saw the Golden Flyers extend their lead. At the 7:21 mark of the period, Nazareth found the back of the net to go up by three. Later in the period, the Cougars were sent to the power play and were unable to convert. After the teams traded chances, the Golden Flyers made it 4-0 after scoring in the final minute of the frame.
Nazareth would add two more goals in the third period. They would score 1:38 into the final frame on the powerplay. The Golden Flyers added another power-play goal in the final minute of the game to clinch the 6-0 victory. Isabella Allsopp led the way with 3 shots on goal, while Abby Cunkelman added a team-leading 5 blocks. Hailey Braaten also contributed defensively with 4 blocks. Samantha Brophy finished with a season high 49 saves and sits 20 saves away from the 1500 career mark.
The Cougars will return for game two of their weekend series with the Golden Flyers tomorrow, January 23rd. Puck drop has been pushed up and will now start at 1 pm.
