Men’s Hockey Shuts Out Terriers

Pittsburgh, PA  –  On Saturday, Chatham Men's Hockey (13-2-0, 4-2-0 UCHC) hit the road against Hiram College (1-12-1). The Cougars defeated the Terriers 4-0, extending their win streak to five games. 

In the first period, the Cougars jumped out to a lead and controlled much of the play. The team ended with 17 shots on goal, with numerous dangerous scoring opportunities, but could not find the back of the net. First-year goaltender Noel Friedman was up to the task and kept the Terriers at bay, keeping the game scoreless. Friedman ended the period going perfect, making 14 saves, as the teams entered the intermission tied 0-0. 

The Cougars would break the game open, scoring three unanswered goals, in the second period. At the 13:44 mark, Charlie Smith netted his 4th goal of the season, from Ian Norkevicus and Bekk McClaine, to put the Cougars up 1-0. Less than a minute later, Caden Pendo scored his 6th goal of the season to double the Cougars' lead. Assists went to Kowin Belsterling and Nicholas Babbie. In the final minute of the frame, Michael Roby scored his team-leading 14th goal of the season, from Babbie and Belsterling, to put the Cougars up 3-0. 

The third period saw the Cougars add another goal. At the 9:05 mark, Kowin Belsterling extended his point to five games, finding the back of the net for his 5th goal of the season, putting the Cougars up 4-0. Babbie and Norkevicus had the assists once again. Noel Friedman's dominance continued into the third. He would make 30 saves in total, recording his first career shutout, keeping the Terriers off the score sheet. 

The Cougars' offense was led by Kowin Belsterling, who finished with 3 points, 1 goal, and 2 assists. Nick Babbie also added 3 assists, while Ian Norkevicus ended the game with 2 assists of his own. 

The Cougars will next travel to St. John Fisher on January 23rd for a conference matchup with the Cardinals. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 pm.
