Pittsburgh, PA – Chatham Men's Hockey (12-2-0, 4-2-0 UCHC) hosted Hiram College (1-11-1) for senior night. The Cougars defeated the Terriers handily, 15-1, to extend their win streak to four games, the second longest of the season, and reset the single-game team goal record.
Pre-game, the members of the class of 2026, including Nick Cyprian, Brendan Pomerantz, True Crowe, Bekk McClaine, and Oscar Saarinen, who all had big games, were recognized. Starting right where they left off yesterday, Brendan Pomerantz opened the scoring, netting his 1st goal of the season, from Camden Davis and Kadsen Johnson. A minute later, the Cougars went up 2-0, after Nick Cyprian fired home his 11th of the season, set up from a crisp passing play by Ian Norkevicus and Camden Smith. Cyprian's goal also marked his 100th career point, and he is the first Cougar in men's hockey history to reach the 100th point plateau. Goaltender Nikolas Trakakis would make 4 first-period saves, and the Cougars would enter the intermission up 2-0.
In the second period, the Cougars' offense continued to fire on all cylinders. Tyler Samodral would make it three-zip after a strong individual effort, scoring his 8th goal of the season. Two minutes later, McClaine got on the scoreboard with his 4th of the season, from Johnson and Pomerantz. Seventeen seconds later, Camden Davis got the first goal of his career, from Caden Pendo and Saarinen to put the Cougars up 5-0. The offensive onslaught continued, and by the halfway point of the period, Chatham increased their lead to 8-0. Dylan Young got his 3rd goal of the season, True Crowe got his 5th of the season, and Jake LaRusso got his 6th goal of the season. In the second half of the frame, Michael Roby netted his team's leading 13th goal, assisted by Crowe, to extend the lead. Cyprian found the back of the net, for the second time in the game, from Davis and Young, to push the Cougars lead to double-digits. The Terriers would get on the board late in the frame and would enter the third period down 10-1.
Goaltender Noel Friedman came into the game for Trakakis to start the third frame. Trakakis finished his night making 11 saves, good for a .917 SV %. The Cougars continued to pour it on in the third period as well, adding another 5 goals. Andrew Martinoo got his 4th goal of the season, from Samodral and Cyprian at the 5:18 mark. McClaine would make it 12-1 two minutes later, netting his second goal of the game, assisted by Kyle Contessa and Crowe. After taking their third penalty of the game, Kowin Belsterling continued his hot streak, scoring his 4th of the season short-handed after being set up by Pomerantz and Charlie Smith. Halfway through the final frame, McClaine completed the hat-trick with assists by Camden Smith and Contessa. In the final seconds of the game, the Cougars would end their historic night with their 15th goal of the game after Saarinen fired his 2nd goal of the season into the back of the net. Friedman wrapped up his only period of action, going a perfect 12/12 on the shots he faced.
The Cougars' historic night was highlighted by every skater recording at least one point, 12 of which had multi-point games, and all five honored seniors scored at least one goal. Pomerantz and Crowe lead the way with 5 total points each. McClaine led the team with his 3 goals, followed closely by Cyprian, who had 2 goals.
Next up for the Cougars is a trip to Ohio on January 16th, where they will wrap up their season series with Hiram. Puck drop is slated for 1 pm.
